CLEANING TIPS

Ceramic Tile Floors
No need to wax. Just sweep and mop on a regular basis and they stay clean and shiny. Mop floors with clear water or just a dash of white vinegar. Be sure to change the water when it gets cloudy. Too much vinegar or dirty water will make floors dull or sticky. Don't use scrub pads on ceramic tile floors or you might scratch them.

Remove Candle Wax from Carpet
Scrape as much wax as possible from carpet with a dull knife. Cover the spot with a paper towel or paper bag, and then go over the paper and spot with an iron (use synthetic setting). The paper will absorb the wax. Remove and check, repeat until wax is completely removed.

Cleaning Scuff Marks
Mix 3 tablespoons of TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) into a gallon of water to clean scuff marks or crayon marks off walls. TSP can be found in the paint department of most hardware stores. Wear gloves and do not use on semi-gloss painted surfaces, gloss paint painted surfaces, or wood surfaces.

Pet Hair Removal From Upholstery and Carpets
To remove pet hair from fabric or upholstery, try a pet rake (a brush with crimped nylon bristles), velour brush, tape roller, or even tape wrapped around your hand. Use light, even strokes to remove the hair. Another option is to try the rubber bottom of a clean tennis shoe or a slightly dampened sponge (as long as the dampness will not harm your type of upholstery).

Another option for both upholstery and carpets - especially at the edges where pet hair tends to collect and vacuums have a hard time reaching - is a "pet sponge." These sponges, which are used dry, are available at pet supply stores.

Dusting Tip
Use paint brushes to dust cracks and hard to reach places in telephones, stereos, etc.

Keep Drains Running Smoothly
For stubborn, slow-running drains, pour 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of salt down the drain. Follow this with 2 quarts of boiling water. Let sit 30 minutes, then flush with cool water.
